Background magazine – Quartus Artifactus album review
This time I had an easy job to judge this fantastic release. Everything concerning Quartus Artifactus is just wonderful and therefore only the highest rating will do. In the review of the latest CD by Twelfth Night MMX (see review) I said that I don’t rate a live album with five stars that often. I didn’t expect to give another live album a five-star rating within such a short period of time. But I did and it’s well deserved!
Fireworks magazine – Seventh Story review
With the net of progressive rock being cast ever further across the world, I have finally reached a stage where I am no longer surprised by where the next exciting prog band springs up from. That said, I’m not sure that even with that outlook I ever expected to be listening to the third release by a band from Uzbekistan (hence the band name)! It never ceases to amaze me that musicians from around the world have the passion, skill and musical knowledge to deliver some outstanding progressive albums and in the case of progressive rock/metallers From.uz, they are exceptionally gifted on all three counts.
Bill’s Prog Blog – DVD REVIEW: From.UZ – Inside Seventh Story (2010, 10T Records)
Last week, I talked about the most recent album from Uzbekistani fusioners From.UZ, Seventh Story. In that review, I mentioned that the band has released a live DVD of the album being played in its entirety (much like the DVD packed in with their first release, Audio Diplomacy, recorded when they were just Fromuz). Titled Inside Seventh Story, it’s the subject of today’s review.
Seventh Story review by Jon Neudorf (Sea of tranquility)
I know its early to talk about best releases of the year but Seventh Story, the latest release from Uzbekistan band From.uz and follow up to their 2008 release Overlook, warrants such discussion. This is an outstanding album and will be on people’s best of lists come the end of the year. While the core of the band remains the same with Vitaly Popeloff (electric, acoustic, synth and fretless guitars, voice) and Albert Khalmurzaev (keyboards, synths, MIDI, programming, 12 string guitar, vibraphone, voice), there are three new members including Ali Izmailov (drums, percussion, marimba, tubular bells), Igor Elizov (keyboards, synths, MIDI, grand piano, voice) and Sur’at Kasimov (bass guitar, double bass).
Overlook review by www.rockrevies.org
The Uzbekistan-based prog-fusion group Fromuz returns with their first proper studio album titled as Overlook. Interestingly enough their debut release “Audio Diplomacy” was a live album, which regrettably I haven’t had the opportunity to check out. However, based on Overlook one could say I’ve been missing out, since the instrumental tracks by this group are rather captivating.
Audio Diplomacy review by Ytsejam.com
If Brian Eno would have joined King Crimson as a full time member (although there was a lot of involvement with Fripp), Audio Diplomacy is what the end result would have been, having the technicalities of and chaos of Crimson, the occasional crunch of Dream Theater, and the soundscape atmosphere of Geoff Downes’ solo material.
