Vitaly Popeloff
Vitaly Popeloff is the guitarist/vocalist of progressive rock band FROM.UZ.
Biography:
Vitaly was born in Tashkent in 1969. His mother is a music teacher, so with her assistance Vitaly started playing guitar at the age of 12. His first meeting with rock music was listening to “Animals” by Pink Floyd.
The first time Vitaly played in a music group was a school band featuring Vitaly on guitar, his buddy on bass and his girlfriend on drums.
After finishing school Vitaly entered Automobile-Road Institute in Tashkent, but study there didn’t encourage him. Vitaly graduated from the institute with the specialty of airport construction, but he has never worked in that field.
Vitaly served in the army in Vladivostok, Far East. During his service he was a member of a rock band and spent all his free time rehearsing and playing concerts, sometimes even missing his military duty. The remarkable feature of this band was the use of Japan music equipment that helped to create a fine sound quality. At that time Vitaly decided to be a professional musician.
His first serious music experience was when he began to play bass in the Edgar Poe band in 1991. In 1994 the band’s guitarist left the group and Vitaly became the new lead guitarist. In the 1990’s the band earned popularity in Tashkent as an art rock band with a skillful guitar player.
The next project for Vitaly was the band called Not for Sale. It was a period of time when he was keen on jazz fusion. In 2003 he recorded his first album “Pure Fiction” that summed up his jazz fusion passion.
In 2004 Vitaly Popeloff and Andrew Mara-Novik created the progressive rock band FROM.UZ where he is still playing.
